People In Education is seeking an eight-month contract Project Coordinator to provide general project and administrative support for our Artist In Residency program.  

About the Position:

This position is an eight-month contract for an average of twelve hours per week, based in Detroit, Michigan. The deadline to apply is May 29 at midnight EST. The target start date for this position is June 19, 2018.

Working at PIE is fun, dynamic, and challenging. We are a growing, grassroots project that continues to evolve, and we are seeking candidates who are passionate about their work and excited to contribute.

The Project Coordinator will work with the PIE director in coordinating a team of artists to create media projects that explore ideas and practices around humanizing schooling through PIE’s Artist in Residency program. Position responsibilities include:

Responsibilities include:

Project support

  • Assist PIE Director with project management tasks, including meeting planning and documentation, and facilitating regular communication with partners

  • Research policy and planning on topics for PIE’s AIR projects

  • Coordinate the production of final products

  • Document and archive projects and create write-ups about AIR projects

  • Assist with project evaluations with partners

  • Coordinate project launches and other events

Program support

  • Coordinate open calls for AIR applications

  • Assist PIE director with coordinating artists trainings

  • Conduct outreach on completed and in-development PIE projects to organizations that might use them, particularly educational institutions and community organizations

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a candidate with an interest in education issues, demonstrated project management skills, and a strong commitment to social justice. The ideal candidate would be outgoing, self-directed, extremely detail-oriented, and able to work in a collaborative environment with a broad range of partners. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to conduct basic research.

An interest in design, visual culture, and experience with Adobe Creative Suite software are pluses.

While this is an entry level position, we are looking for someone interested in developing both their own skills and PIE’s organizational capacity.
